This house by the sea in Defence Phase VIII, Karachi, displays modern takes on a style known in architecture as ‘brutalism’, with its focus on light and other moods and characters created by concrete and other materials. The design feats of the house really elevate residential architecture of the time, as they work with many different design and craftsmanship textures on the walls and roofs to make the home engage the occupants with surprise and delight on every sweep of the eye and every turn of the body.

Play of light, one of the considered feats of design in this home, emerges as a resource. The natural light, captured by the large windows, and released by absorbed, reacted-with textures, make illuminated spaces and contrasting shadows. Surfaces contemporary to the present modern, and present to the future, of design craftsmanship.

Standard Concrete finish, cast in a gentle green hue, is a widely employed texture in the home. It affords the walls a rough and rustic, earthy feel, thereby anchoring the grounded finish. It strikes a powerful and peaceful atmosphere. The texture of the concrete provides a visual flow that draws the eye and promotes surface texture. Overall, the harmony of the design is enhanced by surface richness.

The main entry door is also a significant feature. It has a synthetic Rust finish that contrasts perfectly with the concrete textures.
